Art began for me at the age of 4 when I did my first masterpiece. Purple marker on yellow velvet dining room chair affectionately titled, "Oh Sh#$%t!" by my mother. My mom was an artist who dabbled in oils, acrylics, watercolors and mostly a hot glue gun! Arts and crafts filled our family home. A future in art for me became clear at the insistence of my 8th grade art teacher. What a blessing to have a mentor and direction at such an early age. I went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts for Art with emphasis in graphic design from SDSU. A successful career in Graphic design was to follow, but a family business in real estate now is my full time job. In my spare time I continue the legacy of arts and crafts filling my family home, and most recently acrylic paint on canvas.
I was reintroduced to painting by a local artist who continues to inspire me daily. Instantly I connected to the paint and the canvas. Living on the coast in San Diego, I love trying to capture the flow, energy and mood of waves and water as well as the colors in the magnificent sunsets we have here. Most of my artistic detail is done with pallet knives. In college I connected to Van Gogh, appreciating the freestyle and movement/flow in his works. I try to emulate his bold, dramatic lines and flow to express emotion and the feeling of movement. One of my first sales was my Wave to Van Gogh with a wave image incorporating the strokes of his Starry Night.
The most wonderful surprises are when I find out I have won monthly show exhibits or when I get that call a piece has sold. I have a fantastic fan base on social media which continues to inspire me and I am so grateful for this. It is an amazing feeling when someone finds the same beauty in my art as I see when I create it. .
